The old saying goes “There’s more than 1 way to skin a cat”, but Craps gives you a heap of different ways to play the table without hurting any animals. There’s 2 main types of Craps players – with the house and against the house – and from these 2 styles extends an unlimited range of betting styles that only serve to make the game more confusing for beginners. But never fear, we’re here to help! 1) Craps is a complex game but it can be played in a variety of ways, so you can start simple and learn as you go. Many successful craps players don’t even understand all the rules, just the ones they need to know to play in their own ‘style’. The game is broken up into ‘rounds’ and ‘points’, but to avoid confusion, always wait until a new ‘round’ starts before you place a bet.
2) At the beginning of a round, place the minimum bet on the ‘pass line’ or ‘dont pass line’, which is the most simple way to start playing craps. To ‘win’ on the pass line at the start of a round (the come-out roll) a 7 or 11 must be rolled … if 2, 3 or 12 are rolled this is a loss or ‘craps’. The ‘dont pass line’ is the opposite, and usually means you are betting *with* the casino and against the other players. 3) If any of the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 are rolled on the come-out roll, this becomes the ‘point’ – in other words, the number you need to win. When the ‘point’ is set, a 7 ends the round and all players lose. If the point is set and that number is rolled, everyone with a bet on the ‘pass line’ wins and the die are rolled again – either for a 7, or to set a new point. 4) The value and ‘odds’ of each number is based on the probability of the total sum of both die … a 7 is the most common combination, followed by 6 & 8, then 5 & 9 etc.
5) The best way to learn is AS YOU PLAY so download the free software at any Casino which offers you a free account with play money. If you aren’t sure where to start, experiment using the pass line at the bottom of the table and the ‘boxes’ or ‘numbers’ across the top. Remember you have at least $1000 in play credits at most casino’s, so practice, practice, practice!! |
